Dale Carnegie Principles Applied in Dr./Patient Relationship

“62% of patients receiving an intentionally fake treatment from friendly, empathetic doctors reported relief from their irritable bowel syndrome, compared with 44% of a group that got the same fake treatment from impersonal, businesslike doctors, according to a study. Researchers say it’s unclear whether the health care system can harness the biological power of physician empathy.”

This idea directly relates to several of Dale Carnegie’s Principles on Effective Communication.

Here are a few of them:

Principle #5: Smile

Principle # 7: Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.

Principle #9: Make the other perosn feel important – and do it sincerely.

Principle # 17:  Try honestly to see things from the other person’s point of view
